Geschichte
In 1818, Assistant Pastor Josef Mohr arrives in Oberndorf to find a divided village. The river that runs through it has created a political and social border, with wealthy merchants on one side and impoverished bargemen on the other. The two groups are engaged in a bitter struggle for power and resources. Despite this tension, Mohr is determined to bring justice and comfort to his new parish. He befriends local schoolteacher Franz Xaver Gruber, and together they write a Christmas carol titled 'Silent Night, Holy Night' to provide solace to the struggling villagers during their darkest moments.
