Giada Colagrande, born in Pescara, Italy, is an Italian film director and actress. After studying in Italy, Switzerland, and Australia, she began making video art and documentaries in Rome. Between 1997 and 2000, she created video portraits of contemporary artists under the VOLUME project. She made several short films before directing her first feature 'Aprimi il Cuore' (Open My Heart) in 2001, which premiered at the Venice Film Festival. Her subsequent features include 'Before it Had a Name' (2005), and 'A Woman' (2010). She has also directed shorts for Prada's Miu Miu Women's Tales series, and a documentary on Marina Abramovic's biography.

Story
Maria has worked as a prostitute since her mother's death 15 years ago. She keeps her younger sister Catarina locked in their apartment, allowing her out only for dance class. Maria's love and control over Catarina are absolute; she even allows herself to be touched by Catarina's male dance partner. When Catarina secretly meets this man outside of class, a forbidden love blossoms between them.
