Billie Piper (born Lianne Piper on 22 September 1982 in Swindon, Wiltshire) is an English actress and singer who began her career as a pop singer before transitioning to acting in the late 1990s. She gained significant fame for her role as Rose Tyler, companion to the Doctor in the television series 'Doctor Who' from 2005 to 2006, which she reprised briefly in 2008 and 2010. In 2007, Broadcast magazine listed Piper as the top woman in its 'Hot 100' list of influential on-screen performers. From 2007 onwards, she starred as Belle de Jour in the TV series 'Secret Diary of a Call Girl'. Her notable role includes explorer Sir Malcolm Murray in 'Penny Dreadful (series)'.
