Mentored by Ingmar Bergman, she began her acting journey with roles in his films 'Face to Face' and 'Fanny and Alexander'. Her international breakthrough came with the role of Sabina in 'The Unbearable Lightness of Being' (1988), earning her a Golden Globe nomination for Best Supporting Actress. Story
In 1960s Czechoslovakia, successful surgeon Tomas leads an uninhibited lifestyle with multiple affairs. He meets and brings back to Prague a young photographer named Tereza. When Tomas' affair with the bohemian Sabina is revealed, Tereza decides to leave him during the Soviet invasion of Czechoslovakia in 1968. After realizing his mistake, Tomas chases after Tereza.
