Born as Wan Bik-ha (溫碧霞) on July 30, 1966, in Hong Kong, Irene Wan rose to prominence as a quintessential figure of the city's golden era of cinema. Growing up in the Tiu Keng Leng neighborhood as the daughter of a former Kuomintang official, she entered the entertainment industry at the age of 15, debuting in the critically acclaimed film Lonely Fifteen (1982), which earned her a nomination for Best New Performer at the Hong Kong Film Awards.
Throughout the 1980s and 90s, she became celebrated as a "sexy beauty," starring in notable productions such as Everlasting Love (1984) alongside Andy Lau and Stanley Kwan’s Love Unto Waste (1986). Beyond film, she gained widespread fame for her television roles, most notably portraying Daji in the 2001 TVB series Gods of Honour. After marrying businessman Kenneth Ho in 2000, she took a brief hiatus from the limelight but eventually returned as an actress, singer, and producer. In 2020, she reached a career milestone by winning the Best Actress award at the Silk Road International Film Festival for her role in the thriller The Fallen.
